Economics of the Internet & Ecommerce

What is the internet exactly?  The Internet is a network of networks, joining many government, university, and private computers together and providing an infrastructure for the use of E-mail, bulletin boards, file archives, hypertext documents, databases, and other computational resources.

It is important to note that the Internet and the World Wide Web are not the same thing.  The World Wide Web is a portion of the Internet comprised of a constellation of networked resources. Its Internet servers utilize HTTP to transfer documents and multimedia files formatted in hypertext markup language (HTML).
